
COGUANOR stands for Comisión Guatemalteca de Normas. This is an organization that arose in Guatemala City as a result of Decree 78-2005, the National Quality System Law, and seeks to improve the competitiveness of national companies. Through its regulations, it promotes the improvement of the quality of the country’s products and services both locally and internationally.
Its regulations apply to all industries. There are several entities that make up the committee. Among them are several of the country’s chambers, professional associations, university rectors and the Ministries of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA), Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS), Energy and Mines (MEM) and Environment and Natural Resources (MARN).
Its main function is to promote standards that guarantee the quality of companies at the national level. It creates regulations that enforce the rules in the companies. It also monitors compliance with these standards in the affiliated economic sectors.
What is your relationship with drinking water?
COGUANOR has specific regulations for the extraction of water in Guatemala, all the procedures and processes involved in the water cycle. The Ministry of Economy promotes the application of the standards to the country’s productive sectors. Every country on planet earth has rules and Guatemala is no exception. Sanitary standards, in particular, are promoted to ensure the proper hygiene of public services. They are a measure of social responsibility taken by companies together with the government. Through its application, the health of people is protected.
There are standards that relate to water management:
– Standard for Quality Control of Hot and Cold Drinking Water Meters (NTG OIML R 49)
– Standard for water quality measurement (NTG ISO 5667-6 and NTG ISO 19458)
– Standard for the management of entities providing drinking water services (NTG ISO 24512).
– Standard for the Regulation of Water for Human Consumption (NTG 29001)
