7 Tips for water care at home

Have you heard that water care depends on each person? To prevent water scarcity, each of us can do our part on a daily basis. This is a very important issue, as we must take the utmost care of the drinking water supplies we have. In addition, taking care of this resource will save you money and will be a positive gesture for the planet.

In this article we share with you some ideas for you to take care of water at home!

Water care has always been an important issue worldwide. There is even a water day that is celebrated worldwide. The date is March 22 of each year. In the Americas we are fortunate in that our access to this precious resource is quite good. For this reason, we must be responsible and avoid waste. This is a form of solidarity with other people and with our natural environment. We have an individual social responsibility to planet earth. Water quality, to a large extent, depends on us, not only in Guatemala City, but in the whole world. We have heard that there is a beginning and an end to everything, however this rule is broken with the water cycle, as it comes from natural resources and comes to us to be used and returns back to where it started. In this process we must try, as human beings, not to waste it. Remember that small drops make a difference.

To take care of water from your home, we suggest the following:

1 – Get in the habit of turning off the faucet: when brushing your teeth, soaping up during bathing, shaving and when washing dishes. Take the time you need for these activities without wasting water.

2 – Use water-optimized toilets: they are a great help so that many liters are not wasted every time the toilet is flushed.

3 – Check for leaks in your home: water leaks are very common in pipes and faucets. Give them a check-up every three months to make sure you don’t have this problem at home. You will save a lot of money!

4 – Install pressure reducers in your showers: doing so will regulate the amount of water used and optimize this resource in each bathroom. We also recommend that you take short baths.

5 – Water the garden and wash your car using a bucket: changing the use of the hose for a bucket will allow you to take advantage of every drop. You will contribute to the preservation of clean water and sanitation in your community. Another tip is to try to water in the morning so that the water does not evaporate and fulfills its purpose.

6 – Try to reuse water whenever possible: if you cleaned some food, accumulated cold water while it was heating up or have some left over, use it to water plants or wash your car. This gesture will prevent waste.

7 – Establish clear rules about water use with your family: taking care of water is the responsibility of everyone in the household. Have a discussion with your family about measures to make this resource more efficient. If everyone is on the same page, the savings will be significant.
